Let's talk Waffles...

Sometimes fans feel like they need to do things in desperation. You go to the games, over and over, you shout from your seat, you bang the glass, tell them exactly what they need to do to get back on track and even vent online, but the team never listens. So sometimes, you try to find a way to get them to hear you. For the Maple Leafs, some of their fans thought waffles might do the trick.

In watching the game the other night, my husband was telling me about some of the comments the players have made regarding this new “tradition”.  It seems that no one really ‘gets’ it. Hear me out for a minute…

Maple Leafs – first thing I can think of, besides the actual Maple Leaf, is Maple Syrup. What is maple syrup used for? Well, there is French toast and Pancakes. French toast – you get a nice crust on the outside, sprinkle a little confectioners’ sugar on top and pour on the syrup. But the syrup kinds of seeps into the bread, just making the bread soggy if you take too long to eat it. The pancakes, well pancakes tend to be light and airy, but again, if you take too long, they end up… in my house they end up in the trash. Then there are waffles. Waffles just so happen to be my children’s favorite choice of the three, know why? Because the waffle has these built in dams on top, the whole thing is made up of…syrup traps! (and butter traps too…) And, in each bite, you get the perfect amount of syrup resting atop a delicious dab of butter sinking your teeth into the phenomenal taste of waffle…

Personally, I think it is an ingenious idea…every time this team starts making a mess out there on the ice, the fans throw out waffles in an attempt to catch that syrup and bring ‘em back in…ironically, at least after the Thrashers game the other night, once those waffles made their way onto the ice, the Maple Leafs started scoring again…they even had me a teeny bit worried for a second.
