With the NHL trade deadline looming around us, what better time to investigate the rumors about some of our Thrashers possibly packing their bags. The first is one that was brought to us last week, involving young defenseman, Zach Bogosian.
Word first broke, last week, that the Thrashers were shopping Bogosian. It was said that the team was in talks with Edmonton, possibly for Ales Hemsky and/or Dustin Penner. Although either of the two players would be great additions, why Bogosian? No, he hasn’t played stellar this year, but he is a 20 year old who still has a lot to learn. There’s no doubt he has what it takes to be a top defensive player. He just has yet to show everything he has.
What are Bogosian’s stats for the year, you ask? So far, in 47 games this season, Zach has only tallied 4 goals, 7 assists, and a +/- -16 rating. Not too convincing that he belongs on the team, I know. Again, this is a young kid who’s still learning how to play at the top level. I’m hoping management thinks the same and decides to keep the young one around to see what he offers in the future for the franchise.
Supposedly, there are some disagreements in the locker room between Zach and the coaching staff. Maybe that’s the reason behind his mediocre play. Who knows? What IS known is that Rick Dudley is not actively shopping the young star. Has he said that he won’t listen to offers? No, that would be ludicrous. I’m sure Rick would listen to offers from all teams, for all players, pending the offer was tempting. Time will only tell what the Thrashers will do in the next 13 days and we’ll be sure to keep you up to speed with all the rumors hovering around the team.
