The Panther's in the roost

And we are on the hunt. Today is not a matter of “needing to win”. It is not a matter of, “will we move into a playoff spot”. Today is about HOCKEY. There is no need to talk about Tweets and speculations, today is only about HOCKEY. Hockey and our boys back in town. After a rough road trip, now we are HOME (that is in Atlanta of course).

With our slew of African American stars celebrating Black History month (check out ANY other site in the NHL arena, they have written at least one article about them), the true star of late has been none other than . The true ‘trick’ to tonight’s game is not shooting the puck, we can do that. With 40 shots against the Sabres just the other night, we can shoot the puck. Tonight we need to play 60 minutes of hockey. Not 20, not 40…60.

I don’t really care at this point who is “hot” and who is “not”. I don’t care about the injuries any more. If you are injured, you are out. We cannot whine over that any longer. I honestly don’t even care what Florida’s record is, how many losses, etc. What I really care about is seeing the ATLANTA Thrashers win. Period.

In the words of our Captain (from AJC interview) “You need big efforts from everyone in the room. It seems like we have some guys going and some guys not. This time of year we have to have everyone on the same page.”

And in the words of the man who was told he just couldn’t do it:

“Great moments… are born from great opportunity. And that’s what you have here, tonight, boys. That’s what you’ve earned here tonight. One game. If we played ‘em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight, we stay with them. And we shut them down because we can! Tonight, WE are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players. Every one of you. And you were meant to be here tonight….This is your time. Now go out there and take it.”

Tonight we need to let go of the “problems”, the “issues” and the things that could hold us down. Great moments ARE born from great opportunity. I don’t think anyone has really looked at it that way. The world is watching, Atlanta. This IS your time…show ‘em what you got!
