I’m finally back from my weekend at Talladega, after enjoying one heck of a weekend with a lot of exciting racing. That finish was something, for those of you who watched and love NASCAR like I do. That finish got me thinking. What a better time to look back and refelct on some of the incredible games the Thrashers had this season. So once, maybe twice a week, I’ll be recapping some of those amazing games we all got to experience this season. First up, the January 17th game on the road against the Florida Panthers.
What a game it was. Pretty average, defensive game for the first two periods. Both teams held eachother scoreless up until the third period. That’s when the Panthers let loose. Florida scored not one, but two goals within the first ten minutes in the third, diminishing hopes of Atlanta fans. Did this at least make the players a bit doubtful that they could come back? You better believe it. But did they give up hope? Hahahaha……
So what does a team do when they’re down 2-0 with two minutes left in the game? You pull the goalie, of course. With nothing left to lose, the Thrashers went all out, putting six men on the attack. Sure enough, Bryan Little scored a quick goal with 1:58 remaining, knocking the lead down to one for the Panthers. “Can they really do this? Nah..” That’s what I’m assuming all of Blueland was thinking at this time. Well I’ll be a S.O.B. Chris Thorburn!!! Only 44 seconds after Little’s goal, Thorburn shocked not only Panthers fans, but Thrashers fans as well. After silencing the arena in Florida, the game wasn’t over. After all that excitement, Atlanta only tied the game. There was plenty more work to do.
This one went into overtime. Some looks from both sides, but the goalies at each end were solid. After five minutes of getting no results, it was time for the shootout. Would the Thrashers keep the train rolling and cap it off with a “W”, or would Florida charge back with a head full of steam to eliminate the upset? Well, I wouldn’t be posting this article if we had lost. Duh! Little man, Alex Burmistrov pulled it off! He followed Little’s SO goal in suit to give the Thrashers the win and earn himself first star of the game. Relive the magic with the video posted, highlighting the game’s best moments.
