Man, now THAT is a reason to be excited about the IIHF World Championships. When Maxim Afinogenov did not sign with the Thrashers this season, it was a huge let down to say the least. I think that he left a huge hole that was not filled and could have been the extra boost the Atlanta Thrashers needed to still be in this today…ok, maybe not to the second round of the playoffs…but with a much more positive end to the season than we had. To see that he is going to be on Team Russia again is wonderful news!

With only 4 current NHL players, following is Russia’s roster:
Forwards:
Konstantin Gorovikov
Alexei Tereshenko
Danis Zaripov
Nikolai Kulyomin – Toronto Maple Leafs
Sergei Zinoviev
Alexander Radulov
Yevgeni Artyukhin
Alexei Kaigorodov
Illya Kovalchuk – NJ Devils
Vladimir Tarasenko
Alexei Morozov

Defence –
Illya Nikulin
Dmitri Kalinin
Konstantin Korneyev
Vitali Atyushov
Dmitri Kulikov – Florida Panthers
Nikolai Belov
Fyodor Tyutin – Columbus Blue Jackets
Alexei Yemelin

And for the Goaltending:
Yevgeni Nabokov
Konstantin Barulin

I have seen multiple sites stating that Alexander Burmistrov with the Atlanta Thrashers, has also made the team, but I do not see him on the roster updated as of today.

The games start TOMORROW, just after Prince William and Princess-to-be Kate say ‘I Do’.
