Still in a state of shock after the Tampa Bay Lightning’s embarrassing sweep over the Washington Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin arrived this morning to start practicing with the Russians. So far Ovechkin has helped Russia win one gold, one silver and two bronze medals since 2005. Right now he is trying to focus on bring his home another medal.

Today Ovechkin skated on a line with Maxim Afinogenov and Konstantin Gorovikov and the defensive line of Dmitri Kalinin and Konstantin Korneyev. With Yevgeni Nabokov out for the remainder of the playoffs, Russia was limited to one goalkeeper, Konstantin Barulin. During practice today, Ovechkin is reported to have broken the mask on Barulin when firing shots on goal. Later today it was announced that Vasil Koshechkin has joined Russia as a second goalkeeper to ensure two goalies for their next game.

Ovechkin’s first game will be tomorrow against the Czech Republic. Ovechkin has not had a very good year against Ondrej Pavelec and the Czech Republic has been on fire or “Perfect” as stated after their last win against Slovakia. The game should be pretty interesting to witness, with the media buzzing around Ovechkin and Russia already holding their own pretty well before he joined the team.

Don’t forget a number of the games are being broadcast on Verses.
