In a game heavy laden with unnecessary penalties, eventually Team France would end up eliminated from the playoff participation 60 minutes after hitting the ice. Captain Mark Stuart would be the first to break the tie in the second, followed up by Chris Kreider to bring USA to a 2 goal lead. Andy Miele, the newest addition to the roster played his first ever game for USA today, stepping in and passing the puck to Kreider from behind the net. In reference to the surreal feeling of getting the opportunity to help USA’s ride to a medal Miele said he might just sleep in his jersey tonight…I would probably do the same.

USA dominated France on the ice with 38 shots against France’s 22. Goalie Christobal Huet was the only reason the score was only 3-2. Blake Wheeler and Derek Stepan would, again display their amazing coordination as Wheeler found Stepan again to score the game tying goal with just minutes remaining in the first.

This win has brought USA to tie Sweden for 2nd place with 7 points. USA will be getting James van Riemsdyk from the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow. This will be van Riemsdyk’s first time on the Men’s National Team, representing USA on the U18 and U20 teams previously. Just in the Playoffs, van Riemsdyk scored 7 goals in 11 games. His first appearance with USA will be on Monday when USA plays Switzerland.
