With his second shut out of the World Championship Games, Ondrej Pavelec of the Atlanta Thrashers has successfully sent USA (along with 3 other Thrashers) packing.
“It’s disappointing, “USA’s Captain Mark Stuart said. “It’s tough to be out so early, but I’m proud of how our guys played”

Jaromir Jagr, again proving that age means nothing on the ice rink, scored the hat trick in the 4-0 victory for the Czech Republic.

Tomas Plekanec was the only other Czech player to register a goal and now the Czech Republic prepares to meet Sweden on Friday in the Semis.

Michael Frolik replaced Martin Havlat, out with a shoulder injury, on line with Patrick Elias and Milan Michalek for the first time in the game against the USA. This line has now proven to be the most effective line for the Czech Republic to date in the tournament.

Germany was not quite as ready as they thought they were and are now heading home with the USA team. For the third time in 4 games, Germany fell behind within the first minute of regulation time.

Though the Germans fell behind, they faught hard. With the score 4-2, however, Swedenw ould come back and add one more goal to make sure to keep Germany at bay.
“Any time you come back and make it 4-2, but then they make it 5-23, it takes the wind out of your sails…” John Tripp

Sweden and Czech Republic will place Friday in the first round of the semis. Today is the final round of the quarter finals, Finland will be playing Norway and Canada will be playing Russia. Two teams will remain and two will head home.
