Ever since it was announced that the Jets were coming back, I wanted them to bring Teemu back as well. He’s always been one of my favorites, and still is. His appearance on the No Words commercial is fantastic and the fact that he can skate around kids half his age and put up 31 goals and 80 points at 40 years of age is fucking awesome.
Anyways, it looks like Teemu is coming back for another year, but it won’t be back to Winnipeg. Cue the OC Register:
And with the Ducks scheduled to open the 2011-12 NHL season in his homeland, Selanne is hoping his knee cooperates so he can suit up and play in front of his admiring Finnish fans. First is an Oct. 4 exhibition game against Jokerit, his former pro team in the Finnish Elite League, and then the NHL opener Oct. 7 against Buffalo, both games in Helsinki.
While I can’t really blame him for playing another year with the Ducks and getting a legit shot at the cup vs. playing on a lottery team in Winnipeg, it sure would have been nice to see him finish with the club that drafted him 10th overall in 1988. Either way, I’ll be watching plenty of Ducks games this year, and when Anaheim visits Winnipeg on December 17th the MTS Centre is sure to be rocking. Hell there might be more Teemu jerseys there that night than any Ducks home game in 2011-12.
