Name: Carl Klingberg
Drafted: 2009 2nd round (34th overall) by Atlanta
Klingberg had just 5 goals and 8 points in 49 games in the Swedish Elite League last year, but was great at last year’s World Juniors, where he had 3 goals in 6 games for Sweden. Klingberg, despite standing 6’3″, is a very good skater. He has both a good first step as well as good high end speed. He also has a very good shot that I would say is NHL ready.
Interestingly, given that he is Swedish, his puck skills aren’t highly thought of and neither are his instincts on the offensive side of the ice. That could keep him from being a top 6 type player in the NHL (though with Winnipeg’s RW depth you can’t count anyone out).
Still, even if he can’t, his motor and forechecking ability will allow him to be a good third line type player who will cause some havoc in all three zones. If he does put it all together mentally though, he could end up being a 20-25 goal scorer in the league.
