Predators Down Jets

The Jets took a 2-0 lead after the first period, but lost  to Nashville 4-3 after the Preds put up 4 in the second period. The Predators had more regulars in the lineup with the Jets, and they had a goal blatantly kicked in by Colin Wilson, so an optimist can look towards that if needing affirmation that the Jets played better than the score would indicate.

The kids played well for Winnipeg once again. Paul Postma had another goal and really looked good in all facets of the game. Mark Scheifele had another assist, though the rest of his game was a little lacking and he looked pretty lost on the power play. Jason Gregoire also had an assist and looked great. I still think he’ll start the year in St. Johns but at this point I think he plays more NHL than AHL games this year. He looks like a guy who can score goals at the NHL level and will also be responsible enough defensively. He actually got quite a bit of PP time, which makes sense because he’s a pretty smart player, but no PK time, which surprises me a bit given his abilities on that end of the ice.

Nashville’s fortunes turned on the power play, as they had 3 PPGs in the second. Given that Winnipeg will likely play a rough style of game due to their lack of talent, this is troublesome. The penalty kill will have to improve over the course of the season if Winnipeg has any hope at making a run at the playoffs.

Their next game is tomorrow at 4 vs. the Hurricanes.
