There are reports that the Winnipeg Jets farm club the AHL St. John’s Ice Caps are relocating to Thunder Bay, Ontario for the 2016-17 season. Winnipeg Jets chairman Mark Chipman is set to make an announcement in Anaheim about the rumours.
The Ice Caps have sold out all their games and from a hockey stand point it doesn’t make sense, but for travel and economical reasons Thunder Bay is much closer to Winnipeg and better for the players. The players moving up or down can easily get into Winnipeg in a few hours which cuts down the travel considerably. Not to mention travel for the front office of the Jets, they can take a look at the farm team easier in Thunder Bay. Right now it’s an all day travel day for the players and management.
