Coming out of the Olympic Break, Coach Paul Maurice said that the Jets were a healthy group. That statement holds true comparatively to other teams around the league. The Jets have played 3 games since the break, with a few players going down since the aforementioned coaches comments.
- James Wright was evaluated by medical staff on Sunday for an ankle injury. He has been diagnosed with an ankle sprain, more severe than originally thought. At this point – he is out indefinitely.
- Matt Halischuk returned to action on Tuesday night for the first time since breaking his arm in December, he played a quiet game but with Wright out of the lineup it will be good to have him back.
- Chris Thorburn has also been listed as day to day. It’s suspected that he was injured in his first period fight with Matt Martin, when he played only 48 seconds in the Jets’ loss on Tuesday. The injury is listed as “upper-body”.
- Most notably injured in last nights game was Jets Forward, Mark Scheifele. Scheifele sustained an injury to his MCL in the second period with a knee on knee hit from Islanders Defenceman Calvin de Haan. The team broke the news early the next morning that the injury is to Scheifele’s MCL. TSN is reporting that Scheifele will miss 6 to 8 weeks via Aaron Ward. His 34 points through 63 games will be missed during this playoff push. For a full analysis of the injury, click here.
Note: Grant Clitsome underwent back surgery on January 17, 2014 and will be out for the remainder of the season.
