The Winnipeg Jets have recalled goaltender Michael Hutchinson from the St. John’s IceCaps to replace injured goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Hutchinson has played 22 games with the IceCaps this year and has a 15-5-1 record with a 2.33 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. He has played 28 games this season with the ECHL’s Ontarion Reign with a 22-4-2 record, 2.08 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.
Hutchinson is a 24 year old Barrie, Ontario native and was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the third round, 77th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He has been named the CCM ECHL goaltender of the week honours twice this season for Nov. 17/2013 and Jan. 5/2014.
Pavelec didn’t come out for the second period in the Jets game against the New York Rangers which has been described as a lower body injury. It’s uncertain how long he’ll be out of the lineup. Chris Thorburn was also injured after taking a slap shot to the inside of his foot and he’s doubtful for tomorrow’s game against the Dallas Stars.
